My name is Chareece Sheppard, and I am the proud principal of Sedway Middle School. I am excited to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! I am grateful to be a part of such a great school and am fortunate to be surrounded by dedicated staff members and parents who care about the students at Sedway Middle School. Students demonstrated remarkable accomplishments during the 2018-2019 school year. I’m confident that the upcoming school year will be a great one and will be both engaging and enjoyable for your child.
I’m happy to announce that Sedway is designated as a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school and all students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch every day for no charge for the 2019-2020 school year. Please review the enclosed letter for more information. I’m also excited that our “Closets for Good” program will continue and will provide resources such as school supplies, food, clothing, shoes etc. for those students requiring additional assistance.
Students should plan to arrive on campus beginning at 8:30 am to ensure they arrive at their first period class on time at 8:55 am. The first day of school is Monday, August 12, 2019. Enclosed you will find important information in addition to a homeroom list for the first day of school. We recommend that students bring a backpack, two pens and two pencils. Students must also have a three-ring binder with a pack of dividers (5). Students will be required to maintain all class information in their binder, which teachers will periodically check. Every student will also receive a student agenda where he/she will be expected to document daily homework assignments and objectives for each class.
The Sedway Middle School staff has worked tirelessly to welcome students to an innovative, fun, and safe learning environment. We will embark on our sixth year as an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) school with a focus on increasing rigor through school-wide strategies and activities to prepare all students for college readiness. We will implement a House System during the upcoming school year to help students develop a sense of belonging and community. Lastly, the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program will continue. PBIS is designed to create a positive school climate while rewarding students for good behavior.
Please note that Open House will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 6:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for you to meet our staff and visit your child’s classrooms. You will also receive mandatory Title I information. The 6th Grade Orientation will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 8:30 am in the cafeteria. Students will have an opportunity to receive important information, purchase P.E. uniforms, and pick up schedules. Sedway Middle School has a Standard Student Attire (SSA) Dress Code Policy. Please see the enclosed SSA Guidelines.
I must bring to your attention that ALL CCSD students must have current immunization information on file. Specifically, all 7th grade students must have the following immunization shots prior to beginning the school year: “TDAP”, Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough), and Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis) in the form of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). In addition, 8th grade students who are new to the Clark County School District are required to have the meningitis vaccine. Lastly, please be advised that you will need to officially register your child by completing the on-line registration process through Infinite Campus. Please contact the Registrar at 702-799-3880 ext. 4065 to receive your portal access to complete this important task.
Please know that I am here to help you in any way possible to ensure that your child has the best middle school experience possible. I’m looking forward to the wonderful school year, which is upon us!
With Warmest Regards,
Ms. Chareece Sheppard
